Teleférico del Teide

The Teleférico del Teide is Spain's highest cable car and one of Tenerife's most thrilling experiences. In just 8 minutes, the cabins climb from the base station at 2,356 metres to the upper station La Rambleta at 3,555 metres — placing you higher than any point in mainland Spain and offering views that stretch across the entire Canary Islands archipelago on clear days.

At the upper station, two permitted walking trails — Telesforo Bravo (to the summit, permit required) and the Mirador de La Fortaleza viewpoint trail — lead through a surreal moonscape of yellow sulphur vents, black lava, and white pumice. The Mirador de Pico Viejo trail takes you to the edge of a massive secondary crater with views down to the western coast and across to La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro.

This excursion includes return cable car tickets, guided orientation at the upper station, and transport from your hotel. Booking in advance is essential, especially between June and September, when the cable car's daily capacity of 1,600 passengers fills quickly. Morning departures offer the clearest skies, while afternoon visits capture the dramatic light as the sun descends towards the western islands.
